Six grape growers within the Elgin ward have joined forces to establish Elgin Vintners. The members are fortunate in that they are able to access outstanding quality grapes from within their ranks - each contributing something unique to the final product.
The 2008 Elgin Vintners Merlot is our fourth vintage.

VITICULTURE
These grapes were harvested from a single vineyard planted at 400m above sea level on Eikenhof Farm. Clone Mo348
WINEMAKER
The grapes were vinified by Justin Hoy at his Highlands Road Cellar.
WINEMAKING
After crushing the grapes were given a cold soak of four days.
Thereafter the grapes were fermented with RX60 yeast. Daily punch downs were applied for ten days until fermentation was complete. A five day post ferment maceration took place prior to racking to 225 lit barriques where MLF was completed. 37% new wood. Barrel maturation of a further 14 months.

TASTING NOTES
This wine displays upfront plum and mulberry aromas with underlying mineral notes. Slightly savoury with hints of spice and firm tannins which impart character and complexity. Lovely lingering aftertaste
